Private GEORGE EDWIN FLESHBOURNE

6563, 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment

who died

on 1st July 1916

Son of George Edwin and Sarah Jane Fleshbourne, of 20, Queen St., Grimsby.

Remembered with honour

GORDON DUMP CEMETERY, OVILLERS-LA BOISSELLE

George Edwin Fleshbourne was born in 1890 in Grimsby and enlisted in Grimsby. He was a regular soldier and served in France from 21st September 1914 until his death on the 1st July 1916. He served with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and was awarded the 1914 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Although the date of death on his headstone is record as being 9th July 1916, and that he was 2nd Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, research by Andrew Fleshbourne has proved he died on 1st July 1916 with the 1st Battalion. He has made contact with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission to have this error corrected. The family visited his grave in July 2006.
